5th Annual Valor Awards
Were Held on Friday, March 26, 2010
at The Atlanta Marriott—Gwinnett Place

This special reception honors those in public safety by presenting awards to the men and women who have given the most to protect and serve the citizens of Gwinnett.  There are five award categories including The Medal of Valor Award, Lifesaving Award, Medal of Merit, Public Safety Award and The Purple Heart Award (awarded as necessary).

The Medal of Valor is awarded at the gold, silver and bronze level for bravery and heroism. The Lifesaving Award is given to the public safety official/unit in recognition of acts taken in a life-threatening situation where an individual’s life is in jeopardy.  The Public Safety Awards which include Public Safety Person of the Year, Public Safety Unit of the Year and Communications Person of the Year are awarded to those who have performed their job with exceptional skill, expertise, innovation and results. The Medal of Merit is awarded to an outstanding public safety program for the community. The Purple Heart is awarded to any public safety official who has been critically injured or killed in the line of duty while performing his/her responsibilities at the scene of an emergency incident.
